The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the receipt of the contact details of representatives of the petitioners seeking to recall the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District.
A statement issued on Wednesday by Mr. Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, said the details were submitted in a letter addressed to the Commission’s Chairman.
The development follows an earlier statement by the electoral body on Tuesday, March 25, regarding the recall petition.
“In line with Clause 2(a) of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall 2024, a letter has been written to notify the Senator sought to be recalled about the receipt of the petition.
“The letter was delivered to her official address, copied to the presiding officer of the Senate, and published on the Commission’s website,” Olumekun said.
He added that the next step in the process would be the verification of the list of signatories submitted by the petitioners to confirm that it meets the constitutional requirement of more than 50 per cent of registered voters in the constituency.
“This will be done in the coming days, and the outcome, which will be made public, shall determine the next step to be taken by the Commission,” he stated.
INEC reassured Nigerians that the recall process would be conducted in an open and transparent manner.
