Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), with support from Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) Africa, an NGO says it’s engaging 4,445 pupils across 20 public primary schools on new teaching method.

Mr Joel Jutum, the Programme Officer, TaRL Africa-Nigeria in Adamawa, disclose this at the data dissemination meeting in Yola on Saturday.

He said for the implementation of the new method on literacy and numeracy, 20 schools were selected across Demsa, Girei and Yola-North Local Governments.

He said 145 teachers were also trained to teach numeracy and literacy to primary four, five and six for two hours daily.

According to him, the pupils will be assessed during the learning and after the implementation, they will be assessed again to see if the pupils are able to learn within the short period.

“We are coming with the new approach which is TaRL for teaching the pupils base on their level of competency for them to understand better before transiting to secondary schools.

“This is funded by Oando Foundation and implemented by ADSUBEB with the technical support from TaRL Africa-Nigeria for 2024-2025 academic season,” he said.

Jutum further urged teachers to utilise the opportunity and impact positively on the public while appealing for the sustainability of the programme even after the expiration of the project.

“We are also calling on supervisors and education secretaries to ensure that the implementation is done as expected for meaningful learning in schools,” he said.

In her remarks, Zainab Sale, Director, Schools Services, ADSUBEB, appreciated the partners for the support and assured of the Board’s readiness for successful implementation of the new method of teaching across the targeted schools.

Sale noted that the new method of teaching would accelerate learning within a short time, hence the initiative aimed to catch the children early before completing the primary schools.

On his part, Malam Abubakar Bakari, the Education Secretary, Yola-North LGA, described the programme as a milestone for the development of education in the State and assured support for successful implementation.
