By Ahmed Ahmed
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence, Senator Shehu Buba, has emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among stakeholders, security agencies, and local communities to address rising insecurity in Duguri-Gwana District of Alkaleri Local Government Area, Bauchi State.
It will be recalled that on May 4, 2025, a combined team of professional hunters from Duguri and Gwana districts was ambushed by armed bandits during a routine patrol along Duguri, Mansur, and the Dajin Madam forest, which borders Bauchi and Plateau States.
The ambush resulted in significant casualties, including members of the vigilante group and civilians from Sabuwar Sara village who were brutally gunned down while attempting to escape. In total, 19 lives were lost in the tragic incident.
Buba, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District, made this call on Thursday in Bauchi during a condolence visit to the families of nine hunters and ten civilians killed by bandits in Garin Mansur earlier this month on Saturday.
The Sen. visited the homes of the deceased as well as the palace of the District Head of Duguri, and village heads of Alkaleri, Garin Mansur, and Gwana.
He said the attack occurred while he was out of the country, but upon his return, he made it a priority to personally console the affected families.
“Bauchi State is known for peace, but unfortunately, some criminal elements attempt to disrupt our communities.
“We must stand united against such threats by sharing timely and credible information with traditional leaders and security agencies,” Buba stated.
He pledged to work closely with the Bauchi State Government, security agencies, youth groups, and local communities to develop sustainable strategies that will prevent further attacks.
Highlighting the importance of intelligence sharing, the senator urged communities across the state to promptly report suspicious activities to relevant authorities to help curb future incidents.
To support the grieving families, Senator Buba donated Ten Million Naira to ease their hardship.
Buba condemned the attack as a cowardly act aimed at destabilizing the peace of the region. He stressed the urgent need for enhanced security measures to safeguard lives and property.
