Nguru Local Government has emerged victorious in the KMT Unity Cup football competition, defeating Potiskum Local Government 5-1 in the final match.
The tournament, organized by developmental activist Barrister Kashim Musa Tumsah, aimed to foster unity among the youth of Yobe State.
The decisive match was held at the Miyatti Sport Arena in Damaturu.
According to Hassan Bijod, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), this inaugural event served as a pilot test for a larger competition.
The main tournament is slated to commence soon, with matches beginning at the ward level and culminating in a state-level final.
Bijod emphasized Barrister Tumsah’s dedication to promoting unity, drawing inspiration from Nelson Mandela’s successful use of sports to unite South Africa.
“The competition featured teams from three distinct territorial zones. The winning team received N500,000, while the runner-up took home N300,000.
Additionally, each participating club was awarded N100,000,” he explained.
He further noted that Barrister Tumsah’s central message of unity and collective development resonated throughout the event.
