Critical stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Yobe have endorsed former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The endorsement followed statewide consultations ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for May 25 and May 26.
This is contained in a communiqué jointly signed by Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, State Party Leader, Alhaji Umar Kalli, State Party Chairman, and Kassim Gana Gaidam, governorship candidate.
The stakeholders said the decision followed a review of the presidential aspirants and assessment of their capacities, national acceptability and ability to confront the ruling party in the 2027 election.
According to the communiqué, the stakeholders unanimously resolved to support Abubakar’s aspiration to emerge as the ADC presidential candidate.
It stated that the endorsement was based on his track record in public service, national political spread and governance experience.
The stakeholders described the former vice-president as a competent and experienced leader with the capacity to address Nigeria’s socio-economic and security challenges.
They also said Abubakar enjoyed goodwill and support across the six geopolitical zones, making him a unifying and electable candidate.
The communiqué urged ADC members nationwide to support the endorsement ahead of the party’s presidential primary.
It further stated that the party required a strong and widely accepted candidate to challenge the ruling party in the forthcoming general election.
