Emir of Machina lauds Wali, assures support
By Ahmed Isah
The Emir of Machina, Alhaji Bashir Bukar, has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Yobe, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, assuring him of the support of the people of Zone C ahead of the 2027 election.
The Emir gave the assurance on Thursday when Wali visited his palace as part of his ongoing consultation with traditional rulers across the state.
Bukar described Wali’s emergence as the APC governorship candidate as a historic development, noting that Zone C had not previously produced a governorship candidate since the creation of Yobe.
He said the decision to zone the governorship ticket to Zone C by Gov. Mai Mala Buni, in consultation with Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. Ibrahim Gaidam, and other stakeholders, was significant.
“Today’s event is very historic. In the history of the creation of Yobe State, there was no time Zone C had the opportunity to produce a governorship candidate.
“This time around, Gov. Mai Mala Buni, with his boss, the Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. Ibrahim Gaidam, decided, with the consent of the people, to zone the office of the governorship to Zone C.
“It is therefore a duty-bound responsibility for all the people of Zone C to come out en masse and support the candidate,” he said.
The traditional ruler described Wali as a son of Machina, recalling that the candidate had lived in the town from childhood when his father was transferred there.
He said Wali was about six months old when his father was transferred to Machina, adding that his younger brother, Muhammad Wali, was also his classmate during their primary school years.
“Baba Malam Wali is also a son of Machina. We welcome him and give him all the support to achieve this noble objective,” the Emir said.
Earlier, Wali said his emergence as the APC governorship candidate was achieved with the support of Gov. Buni, Sen. Gaidam and other stakeholders of the party.
He appealed to the traditional rulers to continue to pray for him and other contestants, stressing the importance of the guidance and support of traditional institutions in ensuring a peaceful political process.
Wali expressed confidence that, if elected, the people of Yobe would be proud of their choice.
He assured that he would dedicate himself to serving the people and advancing the development of the state.
Wali, on the second day of his consultation tour, also visited the Emir of Bade, Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman, and the Emir of Yusufari, Alhaji Muhammad Ibn Zakariyya, as part of his engagement with traditional institutions ahead of the election.
The consultations are aimed at seeking the prayers, guidance and support of traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders across the state.
