Police arrest suspect, recover 2 stolen motorcycles in Jigawa

Dutse, September 8, 2026 – The Jigawa Command in Jigawa says it has recorded another significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat motorcycle theft and other forms of criminality across the state, with the arrest of a suspected motorcycle thief and the recovery of two stolen motorcycles through an effective tracing and tracking process.

The command’s Spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu, told newsmen in Dutse on Wednesday that the command received a report concerning theft of a motorcycle from the residence of a complainant at Burtalan quarters of Dutse Local Government Area (LGA) after which police operatives commenced the investigation and activated the available tracing process attached to the stolen motorcycle.

Shiisu explained that the tracing operation successfully generated the geographical coordinates of the motorcycle, enabling the police to track and locate it to a house at Unguwar tsika in Shuwarin town of Kiyawa LGA of the state.

The spokesperson added that motorcycle was subsequently recovered, while a 27-year-old suspect (name withheld) of Dutse LGA was arrested in connection with the theft.

According to him, in a related development, police operatives, in collaboration with vigilant members of the community, intercepted another stolen motorcycle at Narewa village stolen from the residence of a complainant at Kudai village, also Dutse LGA.

“Upon sighting the police and vigilantes who were acting on intelligence and concerted efforts to recover the stolen motorcycle, the suspected thieves abandoned the motorcycle and fled into a nearby bush.

“Despite their escape, the motorcycle was successfully recovered and is currently in police custody while efforts are ongoing to identify, trace and apprehend the fleeing suspects,” the spokesperson said.

Shiisu further quoted the Commissioner of Police (CP in the state, Mr Tijjani Murtala, as commending the police operatives and members of the vigilante groups for their professionalism, resilience, effective use of intelligence and cooperation in the recovery operations.

According to him, the CP reiterated that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, modern crime-tracing technology, community policing and strategic collaboration with local security stakeholders to prevent and combat motorcycle theft and other criminal activities in the state.

He further added Murtala also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements, persons or activities to the nearest police station or through established emergency communication channels, assuring that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property of all people of the state.
