Buni Advocates Tinubu’s Second Term, Says Rotation Principle Must Be Respected
KADUNA – Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni has called for the respect of the power rotation principle between the northern and southern parts of the country to enable President Bola Tinubu secure a second term in office.
Buni made the call on Sunday in Kaduna at a Muslim Intellectual Stakeholders Forum organised by Islamic Women Intellectuals in collaboration with the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Alhaji Kabiru Masari.
The governor said the principle of justice and fairness required that Tinubu be allowed to complete two terms, following the eight years of northern presidency under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“If the North enjoyed eight years of two-term tenure, it is only fair and just to give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a second term of office,” Buni said.
He urged the stakeholders to remain committed to ensuring justice and fairness in the country’s political process, saying this would enable Tinubu to consolidate his policies, programmes and projects for the benefit of Nigerians.
“The law of justice and fairness should be applicable in all ramifications, and I am glad with the involvement of Islamic intellectuals in political programmes to stand on the path of justice and enrich Nigeria’s politics,” he said.
Buni urged the scholars to take the message of fairness and peaceful coexistence to their respective states, stressing the importance of their knowledge and influence in promoting national development.
“We need to benefit from your knowledge. And as Islamic scholars, you have great roles to play to promote fairness and peaceful coexistence at the family, community, local, state and federal levels to give Nigeria the desired peaceful atmosphere to grow and develop,” he said.
The Special Adviser to the President on Political and Other Matters and co-convener of the forum, Alhaji Kabiru Masari, commended the intellectuals for their interest in the political development of the country.
Masari urged them to deploy their knowledge and expertise to support the Tinubu administration in accelerating national development.
“Your interest is adding more value to Nigeria’s political development, and I urge you to put your vast knowledge into use to fast-track the development by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration,” he said.
He also appealed to the stakeholders to support Tinubu’s bid for a second term to enable him consolidate the policies and programmes of his administration.
“You should support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consolidate the policies and programmes of his administration by voting him for a second term of office,” Masari said.
The Governor of Gombe State and Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya, described the participation of Islamic women scholars in politics as a welcome development.
Yahaya said the scholars played pivotal roles in family upbringing, institutionalisation of social and moral values, and promotion of peaceful coexistence in the country.
He urged them to continue contributing to the political and social development of Nigeria.
