Fintiri Declares Monday Work-Free Day in Honour of Late Bamanga Tukur

YOLA – Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has declared Monday, Sept. 14, a work-free day in honour of the late Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, former Governor of the defunct Gongola State.

The declaration was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, on Sunday in Yola.

According to the statement, the work-free day is to enable residents to pay their last respects to the late elder statesman and reflect on his life and contributions to the state and the country.

Tukur was buried in Yola on Sunday following funeral prayers held at the Lamido’s Palace.

Fintiri said the declaration was in recognition of the late Tukur’s immense contributions to the growth and development of Adamawa State and Nigeria.

The governor said the work-free day formed part of the three-day mourning period declared by the state government in honour of the deceased.

He added that all flags would continue to fly at half-mast across the state throughout the mourning period.

Fintiri urged the people of Adamawa to use the work-free day to pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed and seek God’s comfort for his family, friends and the people of the state.

The governor, however, directed that all essential services should continue to operate.
