Zulum in Canada to pursue partnerships in technology, education, others
Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno has arrived in Canada for high-level engagements aimed at fostering partnerships with Canadian institutions and industries in technology, education, agriculture and other sectors.
The visit is part of the governor’s efforts to diversify the state’s economy, strengthen human capital development and attract investment.
A statement issued by the governor’s spokesman said the engagements would focus on education, skills development, agriculture, livestock, technology and investment.
It said Zulum was scheduled to meet representatives of Canadian universities, technology hubs and agricultural research institutions to explore technical support, knowledge transfer and foreign direct investment opportunities for Borno.
According to the statement, the visit would also explore scholarship opportunities for Borno students and the development of vocational training programmes tailored to modern labour market demands.
It said the governor would seek partnerships with Canadian technology firms to promote digital literacy and establish innovation hubs in Maiduguri.
The statement added that Zulum would leverage Canada’s agricultural expertise to strengthen food security, modernise livestock production and improve agricultural value chains in the state.
It said the governor would also engage Canadian investors on Borno’s emerging investment opportunities, with emphasis on sustainable development and economic recovery.
The visit is expected to deepen cooperation between Borno and Canadian institutions while supporting the state’s economic diversification and human capital development agenda.
