The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), says it has neutralised six terrorists, arrested 11 suspected collaborators and received the surrender of a Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) member in Borno.
Capt. Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, OPHK, disclosed this in a statement issued in Maiduguri on Sunday.
Goni said troops of 29 Task Force Brigade Garrison, working with Hybrid Force personnel, ambushed Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP)/JAS terrorists along the Targejeri axis of Kaga Local Government Area at about 12:37 a.m. on Oct. 25.
He said six terrorists were neutralised, while troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 169 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, five mobile phones and charms.
According to him, a follow-up raid in Benisheikh town on Oct. 24 led to the arrest of six additional suspected collaborators, bringing the total number arrested in the investigation to 11.
He said the suspects were undergoing investigation to establish their involvement in terrorist activities and identify other members of the network.
The military spokesman added that troops of 192 Battalion, supported by Hybrid Force personnel at Hambagda Internally Displaced Persons camp in Gwoza, received a JAS member who surrendered at about 9:20 p.m. on Oct. 24.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that the individual escaped from a terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountains.
The defector surrendered with an AK-47 rifle and 28 rounds of ammunition.
Goni reaffirmed OPHK’s commitment to intelligence-led operations and urged residents to provide credible information to security agencies to support peace and stability in the North-East.
