FG Denies Ordering Fuel Price Hike
The Federal Government has vehemently denied issuing any directive to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to increase the price of petrol to N1,000 per litre.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, made this clarification in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser, Media and Communication, Nnemaka Nwafor.
The minister emphasized that the NNPCL is an independent entity operating under its own commercial decisions. He added that the Ministry of Petroleum Resources does not interfere in the pricing policies of the corporation.
“The Federal Government is compelled to address the outright falsehood and malicious claims currently circulating on social media.
“We categorically condemn these claims as baseless, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to incite public discontent,” Lokpobiri stated.
He challenged anyone with evidence supporting the claims to make it public, asserting that such a claim is entirely devoid of truth and aimed at misleading the public.
The minister urged Nigerians to disregard the false information, stating that it is not true.
