The Arabic and Islamic Education Board (AISEB), Yobe, has called for urgent action to address the challenges facing Almajiri children and Islamiya schools across the state.

Dr. Mal Umar Abubakar, Executive Secretary of AISEB, made the call in Damaturu on Friday at the inauguration and distribution of learning and welfare materials to Almajiri pupils and Islamiya schools.

He said while the state government had recorded major achievements in healthcare enrolment, feeding programmes and scholarship support, many Almajiri children still struggled with poor learning conditions and street begging.

Abubakar urged government, development partners and philanthropists to provide additional classrooms, toilets, clean water, medical care and modern school structures in all 17 local government areas.

“We must act together to give every Almajiri child the chance to learn, grow and contribute positively to society,” he said.

The secretary said the board had distributed 20,000 mats, 30,000 textbooks, 2,200 mosquito nets, 3,500 food dishes and 3,000 shoes, among other items, to improve learning conditions.

He listed other interventions such as enrolling thousands of Almajiri children into the Yobe Contributory Healthcare Scheme, carrying out surgical operations for 35 pupils, and offering scholarships to 32 promising students.

Some beneficiaries, including Iklima Isah from Nuruddeen Islamic School and Muhammad Alhassan from Madarasatul Tarbiyatul Islamiyya, Damaturu, expressed gratitude and prayed for more support.
