
Sen. Bomai inaugurates overseas scholarship, sends 51 Yobe students to India
Sen. Ibrahim Bomai, representing Yobe South Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, has flagged off an overseas scholarship scheme on Tuesday in Potiskum.
The scheme under the Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai Education Trust Fund, marked the departure of the first batch of 51 students sponsored to pursue bachelor’s and master’s degrees in various universities in India.
Prof. Muhammad Lawan, who chaired the occasion, commended the balanced distribution of beneficiaries across the four Local Government Areas of the zone.
He said the initiative demonstrated fairness, inclusiveness, and the Senator’s commitment to education and youth empowerment.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Scholarship Committee, Ibrahim Mohammed, said the gesture reflected Bomai’s vision for developing human capital within and beyond his constituency.
He described the effort as a foundation for long-term educational transformation in the district.
The Chairman of Potiskum Local Government Council, represented by the Vice-Chairman, Ado Ngojin, lauded the initiative as a milestone that would have lasting impacts on the lives of young people and the socio-economic growth of the state.
Some beneficiaries, including Adam Ibbi and Aisha Tanko, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to study abroad.
They described the scholarship as a life-changing experience that would help them contribute meaningfully to society.
Parents, community leaders, and political associates, applauded Sen. Bomai’s foresight and commitment to education, noting that the programme would not only benefit the students but also uplift Yobe South as a whole.
The students are expected to depart Nigeria in the coming days to begin their academic programmes in India.
