BASIEC schedules Jan 6, 2026 by-elections for Shira, Zaki wards

The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has officially announced the conduct of by-elections in Zubo and Mainako Wards of Shira and Zaki Local Government Areas, respectively, slated for Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
This is contained in a statement signed by Ishiyaku Adamu, Information Officer, of the Commission made available to newsmen on Monday in Bauchi
The notification, issued pursuant to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Bauchi State Electoral Law 2008 (as amended), and other enabling powers of the Commission, was made public on December 22, 2025.
According to BASIEC, the by-elections will hold simultaneously across Zubo Ward in Shira Local Government Area and Mainako Ward in Zaki Local Government Area, with polling expected to take place throughout the wards on the scheduled date.
The Commission also announced a revision to its earlier timetable, disclosing that the previously announced by-election for Tumfafi Ward in Shira Local Government Area, initially fixed for December 23, 2025, has been postponed.
The election in Tumfafi Ward will now be conducted on January 6, 2026, alongside the Zubo and Mainako Ward polls.
BASIEC further informed political parties and stakeholders that nomination papers for interested candidates are available for collection at the Shira and Zaki Local Government Electoral Offices.
The notice serves as formal communication to residents, political parties, and other relevant stakeholders in Tumfafi and Zubo Wards of Shira Local Government Area, as well as Mainako Ward in Zaki Local Government Area, to prepare for the forthcoming by election
The Commission reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to conducting credible and transparent local government elections across Bauchi State.
