Youth groups in Yobe on Wednesday endorsed Alhaji Lawan Kolo Geidam to contest the 2027 governorship election, citing his experience, grassroots connection and commitment to youth development.
The endorsement was announced in Damaturu by the Democratic Enlightenment for Good Governance, a youth-based organisation with coordinators across the state.
The group’s Coordinator, Adamu Hussaini Yunusa, said the decision followed wide consultations and deliberations involving 178 coordinators drawn from the local government areas of the state.
Yunusa said the youths resolved that the future of Yobe required a leader with proven knowledge of public service, politics and grassroots administration.
He described Geidam as a seasoned administrator who had served at local government, state and national levels, including as a local government chairman and a civil servant.
According to him, Geidam currently serves as Permanent Secretary, Youth Development, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Abuja.
Yunusa said Geidam had consistently encouraged young people to pursue education and self-reliance, resulting in many youths becoming entrepreneurs, civil servants and staff of non-governmental organisations.
He said the endorsed aspirant had mentored and supported many youths in the state and remained accessible for guidance and advice.
The coordinator said the endorsement was also driven by the desire to sustain the gains recorded in human capital development and inclusive governance in the state.
He added that the youths believed Geidam possessed the capacity to attract development partners and investors to consolidate infrastructure and economic growth.
Yunusa said the endorsement represented a collective call to service by youths across the state, who adopted Geidam as their sole preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
In his remarks, a close ally of the endorsed aspirant, Alhaji Adamu Yahaya Alabura, a former local government chairman, assured the youths that their message would be conveyed to Geidam in due course.
