Gashua–Masaba Road to Be Completed Soon – Engineer
By Ahmed Isah
The Gashua–Masaba road project in Bade Local Government Area of Yobe is progressing steadily and will be completed within the stipulated construction period, the project engineer has said.
Kabiru Muhammed Kadigum, the project engineer, disclosed this on Monday during a media tour of the project organised by the state government.
Kadigum said the 25-kilometre road traverses about 14 rural communities largely engaged in agricultural production, particularly rice farming.
He explained that full clearance had been completed along the entire 25-kilometre corridor, while earthworks had been concluded throughout the route.
According to him, sub-base works have been completed on about 17.8 kilometres, while base course construction has reached approximately 10.8 kilometres.
Kadigum described the road as critical to improving access to farmlands and boosting the evacuation of agricultural produce from the communities.
He said the absence of major security challenges had enabled uninterrupted construction activities since the commencement of the project.
“With the current pace of work and the support we are receiving, we are confident the project will be delivered within a very good time,” he said.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, said the road was part of the government’s strategy to open up previously inaccessible rural areas.
Bego noted that the affected communities had remained landlocked for many years, limiting economic activities and access to basic services.
He said the project reflected the administration’s commitment to inclusive development, stressing that no community was considered too small or insignificant for government intervention.
The commissioner added that the completion of the road would significantly improve mobility, enhance agricultural value chains and improve the living conditions of residents in the area.
