Trailer Transit Park to Create 5,000 Direct Jobs in Yobe – Commissioner
By Ahmed Isah
The Yobe Government says the Potiskum Trailer Transit Park will create about 5,000 direct jobs and several indirect employment opportunities upon completion and commissioning.
The Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, disclosed this during a media tour of the facility on Tuesday in Potiskum.
Bego said the park was conceived to harness Potiskum’s status as a major commercial hub, with vibrant cattle trading and haulage activities serving northern Nigeria and beyond.
He explained that the facility would host shops, fuel stations, warehouses and other services, creating sustainable livelihoods for youths and boosting the local economy.
According to him, the scale of trading, trailer fabrication and transport services in Potiskum informed the decision to establish a modern transit park to organise activities and improve efficiency.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmad Buba Abba Kyari, said the project had reached about 98 per cent completion.
Kyari said only the drivers’ accommodation block remained outstanding, adding that work on the dormitory was expected to be completed before the end of February.
He explained that facilities at the park included accommodation, two warehouse blocks, washing and service bays, and a parking area with capacity for about 500 trailers at a time.
Kyari added that the park covered about 86,000 square metres and had adequate security, including proximity to a military outpost.
He said the facility was technically ready for operation, pending official commissioning by the state government.
