The contractor handling the Damaturu flyover project says the infrastructure has reached more than 93 per cent completion and will be opened to traffic before the end of May.
Mr Fadi Abi Aad, Area Manager of Triacta Construction Company in Yobe, disclosed this on Sunday during an inspection visit to ongoing roads and other critical infrastructural projects executed by the Yobe Government.
Abi Aad said the continuation of the flyover and underpass project had also attained more than 30 per cent completion.
“We are working to complete all the works before December 2026.
“Hopefully, all the area will be completed within the stipulated period,” he said.
He explained that workers were currently laying asphalt after completing retaining walls, earthworks, laterite filling and compaction.
“After the asphalt binder, we will construct walkways and carry out painting and other finishing works,” he said.
Abi Aad commended the Yobe Ministry of Works and the administration of Gov. Mai Mala Buni for supporting the project through prompt release of funds.
According to him, the flyover was designed to last for at least 50 years.
Also speaking, Builder Hassan Musa Ibrahim, Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Yobe Ministry of Works, said the project was being executed in phases.
He said the flyover contract was awarded on Feb. 21, 2025, while additional expansion works were later introduced.
“The extension covers dualisation from the flyover axis to the 27 August Stadium, spanning about 6.6 kilometres on both sides with walkways and green areas,” he said.
Ibrahim expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work by the construction company.
“We engaged an international company to ensure standard work and so far we have no problem with them.
“The government has paid 50 per cent mobilisation and additional payments based on certified work done,” he said.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Rajab Ismail Muhammed, expressed satisfaction with the level of execution of the projects.
“Honestly, even though I am not an engineer, I am satisfied with the quality and level of execution of the projects,” he said.
