The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to sustaining peace and security in Bauchi State, calling for stronger collaboration between security agencies and the public to effectively tackle security challenges.

This assurance was given on Saturday during the 2025 West African Social Activities (WASA) ceremony held at the Shadawanka Barracks, Bauchi, and organised by the 33 Brigade of the Nigerian Army.

Speaking at the event, the Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General Uchechukwu Godwin Simon, emphasised that security remains a collective responsibility, stressing that the efforts of the military must be complemented by the cooperation and support of citizens.

According to him, while the Nigerian Army will continue to discharge its constitutional duties with diligence, intelligence sharing and public support are crucial in eliminating criminal activities across the state.

Brig-Gen.Simon described WASA as a vital military tradition that celebrates the Army’s shared identity, rich cultural heritage, and collective achievements over the year.

He expressed gratitude to Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu, for their sustained support and strategic leadership.

Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by the State Chief Security Adviser, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Sani Mohammed, commended the Nigerian Army for its professionalism, resilience, and sacrifices in maintaining internal security.

He described WASA as a unifying platform that strengthens discipline, camaraderie, and civil-military relations while boosting troop morale.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, noting that peace and security remain critical to socio-economic development and the wellbeing of citizens.

Highlights of the ceremony included colourful cultural performances, a tug-of-war competition, presentation of awards to outstanding personnel, and the ceremonial lowering of flags.

The event ended with a bonfire, symbolising unity and brotherhood among officers and soldiers.
