The North East Health Awareness Forum (NEHCAF) has expressed concern over an alleged discrepancy in the release of capital funds to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, calling for transparency and accountability in the management of public health resources.
In a statement jointly signed by the forum’s Chairman, Abdullahi Ahmad, and Secretary, Ummu Kulsum Rabiu, NEHCAF said it was shocked by reports attributed to the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof.
Muhammad Ali Pate,
“Indicating that only N36 million had been released out of the N218 billion appropriated for capital projects in the health sector.
According to the forum, the revelation raises serious questions about transparency, fiscal discipline and the effectiveness of funding processes within Nigeria’s healthcare system.
“The health sector is central to the well-being of citizens, and any discrepancy in funding allocation undermines efforts to deliver quality and accessible healthcare services,” the statement said.
NEHCAF noted that the situation could negatively affect ongoing and future health interventions critical to improving health outcomes nationwide, stressing the need for urgent clarification.
The group therefore called on relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the funding process and ensure that all appropriated resources are released and utilised efficiently.
It added that citizens in a democratic society deserve a properly funded and functional health system capable of meeting public needs.
The forum also urged government institutions, civil society organisations and the media to collaborate in promoting accountability and strengthening health financing mechanisms across the country.
NEHCAF reaffirmed its commitment to advocating reforms that would guarantee transparent utilisation of public funds and improve healthcare delivery for all Nigerians.
