Adamawa community wants total rehabilitation of health facility

Residents in Nasarawo community, Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa has appealed for a total rehabilitation of the Primary Healthcare facility towards improving the well-being of women and children in the state.

Some of the residents made the appeal in an interview with journalist in Demsa.

Mrs Grace Audu a resident explained that in the past, the facility wast one of the best but now it’s in critical condition and needs rehabilitation by the state government and development partners for effective service delivery to residents.

According to her, the facility has a high flow of patients especially women and children, and the facility is not enough to accommodate them at the same time.

Malama Hafsatu Haruna, Treasure Community Development Community (CDC) also expressed the need for immediate rehabilitation and expansion of the facility to accommodate more patients.

According to her, patients from Numan LGA and villages around patronise the facility because of manpower and proximity.

She added that other areas that needed attention are Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities to improve hygiene and provide enough water to labor room and toilet. among others.

When contacted, the Executive Chairman Adamawa Primary Healthcare Department Agency (ADPHCDA), Dr Suleiman Bashir said, the agency is fully aware of the condition of the facility.

According to him, the agency has already identified the facility as one of the centres requiring revitalization.

He added that the facility had earlier been considered in the first batch of facilities slated for revitalization but faced challenges due to lack of available land for expansion.

“Indeed, Nasarawo Demsa is one of our high output primary healthcare facilities and we are very cognizant of its strategic location,” he said.

He explained that the facility serves a densely populated area with high fertility rates, making it a key centre for maternal and child health services.

Bashir also disclosed that the government is targeting the rehabilitation of 145 primary healthcare centres within the current phase of the programme as directed by Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri.

“With this initiative no community should be left behind in accessing healthcare service.

“And the government’s revitalization plan for primary healthcare facilities focuses on perimeter fencing, infrastructure improvement, provision of staff quarters, 24-hour solar electricity supply for uninterrupted water supply”, he said.
