The Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Auwal Jatau, on Monday declared open a five-day capacity building workshop for Permanent Secretaries, Directors of Administration, and Human Resource officers, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to strengthening the civil service.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Bauchi, Jatau described the workshop as both timely and historic, noting that a similar programme had not been आयोजित for over two decades.

He said the initiative reflects the administration’s deliberate effort to reposition the civil service as a critical driver of governance and sustainable development.

“The civil service remains the backbone of government. No meaningful development can be achieved without a competent, disciplined and forward-looking public service,” he stated, urging participants to take full advantage of the training to enhance their professional competencies.

Jatau highlighted key achievements of the administration of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed since 2019, including sustained investment in staff training and capacity development programmes, as well as the digitalisation of government processes to improve efficiency, transparency and service delivery.

He also noted the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare, citing the prompt payment of salaries and the implementation of the N70,000 national minimum wage, alongside improved remuneration for healthcare workers.

Earlier, the Head of Civil Service, Mohammed Sani Umar, described the workshop as a landmark initiative aimed at addressing gaps in essential administrative skills such as memo writing, report preparation, and official communication.

He commended the state government for its reforms, including the introduction of a merit-based online recruitment system and ongoing modernization of administrative processes.

The workshop, holding at the International Conference Centre, Bauchi, is expected to equip participants with practical skills to enhance service delivery and strengthen institutional efficiency across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
