Rajab Isma’il to Chair NAWOJ Electoral Committee
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe State Council, Comrade Rajab Muhammad Isma’il, has been appointed Chairman of the Electoral Committee for the forthcoming National Delegates Conference and election of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).
The appointment was announced during the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, on Thursday.
The Electoral Committee was inaugurated by the National President of NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi, as part of preparations for the NAWOJ National Delegates Conference and election scheduled for November 2026.
The committee is expected to oversee the electoral process and ensure that the election is conducted in accordance with the established procedures of the association.
The NEC meeting brought together leaders and representatives of NAWOJ State Chapters from across the country to deliberate on issues affecting the association and its members.
The meeting also considered arrangements for the forthcoming delegates conference, including processes required for a successful conference and election.
A significant development at the meeting was the formal inauguration of the Chairperson and Secretary of the newly elected NAWOJ Yobe State Chapter as members of the National Executive Council.
The NEC meeting was hosted by the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmad B.K.
The opening ceremony was attended by government officials, media stakeholders, NAWOJ leaders and other invited guests.
In a goodwill message, the NUJ Chairman, Kebbi State Council, Comrade Bello Abubakar Sarki, stressed the importance of women’s participation and professional development.
The Kebbi State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Halima Hassan Kamba, also emphasised the need for greater inclusion of women in societal development.
The Governor of Kebbi State, Dr Nasir Idris, who was represented by his Deputy, Sen. Umar Abubakar Tafida, highlighted the role of women in peacebuilding, youth empowerment, community development and inclusive governance.
The NAWOJ National President, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim, appreciated the Kebbi State Government for hosting the NEC meeting and supporting the association.
The meeting ended with a commitment by the national leadership and State Chapters to strengthen the association, promote professional development and improve the welfare of women journalists across the country.
