ActionAid Nigeria has urged residents of Yobe State to actively participate in the formulation of the 2025 budget.

Mr David Habba, the Humanitarian and Resilience Manager of ActionAid Nigeria, made the call at a town hall meeting with citizens in Damaturu on Thursday.

Habba, represented by the Project Manager, Mr Kenneth Unuafe, said the consultative meeting was organised by the Yobe State Ministry of Budget and Planning.

He noted that the 12-year conflict in the Northeast had displaced millions of people, devastated agricultural production, and disrupted essential services.

“The cumulative effects of conflict, compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, floods and climate change, have created a humanitarian situation that demands our urgent attention and concerted action,” Habba said.

He added that ActionAid was committed to creating community-tailored social cohesion and protection programs to restore community structures and promote peaceful coexistence.

“We envision a future where all community members have access to livelihood opportunities and essential services, fostering an environment where individuals can thrive and rebuild their lives,” Habba said.

In his remark, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni expressed appreciation to the citizens for their continuous participation in the budget preparation process.

Buni represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Idi Gubana emphasised the importance of citizens’ participation in formulating government policies and programmes, saying it fosters trust and accountability.

Buni reiterated the state government’s commitment to an open-door policy in conducting its activities.
