
Group demands release of Prof. Yusuf amidst growing concerns over human rights

A group Tafiyan Matasan Arewa (Northern Youth Movement) Bauchi State Chapter has expressed deep concern over the recent arrest of Professor Usman Yusuf,
former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), a renowned advocate for social justice and human rights.
The group demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Professor Yusuf, stressing that his voice is vital in the ongoing struggle for justice and equity in Nigeria.

Professor Yusuf’s arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged N4 billion fraud has sparked widespread condemnation.
Maidawa described the arrest as an affront to personal freedoms and a direct attack on the principles of justice, equity, and free speech.
He urged the Tinubu administration to redirect its energy and resources towards addressing pressing security challenges, hunger, health issues, and economic difficulties plaguing the nation.
They emphasized that the government should engage in constructive dialogue with critics and work collaboratively to find solutions to the myriad problems facing the nation.
According to him, the Tinubu administration has previously stated its commitment to prioritizing key areas, including, focus on security, address hunger, improve healthcare and strengthen the economy.
“However, the recent arrest of Professor Yusuf has raised concerns over the administration’s commitment to human rights and democratic values.
The Chairman called on the relevant authorities to respect the rule of law and uphold democratic values.
He urged all citizens, civil society organizations, and human rights advocates to stand in solidarity with Prof. Yusuf and speak out against this unjust action.
