SAZU Bauchi boosts community-centered research

The Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi State, has reaffirmed its dedication to impactful, community-driven research that addresses the real needs of Nigerians, particularly in the Northeast region.
This commitment was underscored by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Fatimah Tahir, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Professor Bala Abdulhamid Ma’aji, during a three-day capacity-building workshop on Research for Impact (R4I) and Grant Writing for academic staff on Monday.
The training, organized by the Centre of Excellence for Research and Innovation (CERI), is designed to empower faculty members with practical skills to design relevant research projects capable of attracting funding and delivering measurable benefits to society.
Prof. Ma’aji stressed the role of research as a catalyst for national development and emphasized SAZU’s vision of producing knowledge that directly responds to societal challenges.
“We are determined to support research that is not only academically sound but also socially impactful,” he said.
He also pointed out the critical role of grant writing in the research process and encouraged participants to fully engage in the training to improve their ability to secure research funding.
In his welcome address, Dr. Usman Waziri, Director of CERI, highlighted that the workshop is part of the university’s broader strategy to entrench a culture of excellence and innovation in research.
He noted that participants would be equipped to craft competitive proposals capable of attracting both national and international grants.
A total of 46 academic staff from various departments and faculties are taking part in the training, which is expected to significantly enhance the university’s research output and strengthen its engagement with the broader community.
