
NEDC, NMA provide free medical outreach to 2,200 in Adamawa
The North East Development Commission (NEDC), in Collaboration with Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Adamawa chapter, started a free medical outreach for about 2,200 vulnerable people in Girei Local Government Area, Adamawa.
Speaking at the occasion in Girei, NMA’s Acting Chairman, Dr Nathaniel Noel, said that the three-day medical outreach was focused on maternal and child health and eye care services.
“For the eye care, we are targeting not less than 200 surgeries and we are going to have consultations for others, where drugs and medical glasses will be given for free.
“For the maternal and child healthcare aspects we have a mama kits by the NEDC, this is a life saving kits for pregnant women that are about to put to bed and other consumables,” he said.
Hajiya Batula Isa, NEDC’s Head of Health and Sanitation Matters, said the mandate of the commission was to impact on the lives of people in the region.
She said the outreach would help vulnerable persons, who were in need of such services to improve on their health conditions and those with serious cases can be refered to appropriate health facilities.
According to her, the same exercise is going on across the six states of the North East region, providing medical services at the door steps of the people.
“The management of the commission is doing everything possible to impact on the lives of people in the state and the region.
Adamu Dalhatu, Council Chairman of Girei LGA, who was represented by his Duty, Ms Lauri Zephaniah, appreciated the organisers for the initiative.
He called on residents with such health challenges to take advantage of the exercise to improve on their health status.
Alhaji Ahmed Mustapha, District Head of Girei also lauded the organisers and called on other organisations and wealthy people to emulate such initiative to help the vulnerable people.
Salama Abubakar, a 67-year- old beneficiary, thanked the organisers for the free medical outreach.
She said that she was given a pair of eye glasses and drugs to help improve her vision.
