Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has urged Nigerians to pray for Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leaders.

Buni made the call on Tuesday in Damaturu during a meeting with Chief Imams of Juma’at mosques across the state.

The meeting, attended by over 800 Chief Imams, marked the first phase of engagement with Muslim and Christian clerics in the state.

He said that Nigeria required prayers against internal and external challenges to ensure peace and national prosperity.

The governor stressed that meaningful development could not be achieved without peace, urging citizens to support leaders in safeguarding the country.

Buni recalled the Boko Haram insurgency, describing it as a painful period when many lives were lost, millions displaced and properties destroyed.

He said that the state could not afford a relapse into such experiences and called for sustained support to preserve unity and stability.

According to him, Nigeria remains Africa’s most populous nation, with many countries looking up to it for leadership and stability.

“We have no other country to call our own except Nigeria, therefore, we must pray for lasting peace, prosperity and divine guidance for our leaders,” he said.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs, Babagana Kyari, said that the meeting was to remind clerics of their role in praying for the nation and its leaders.

Kyari said that the second phase of the engagement would involve pastors and leaders of churches across the state.

He commended the prevailing peace and harmony among clerics in Yobe and their commitment to national unity.

The imams pledged to convey messages of peace and coexistence to their followers and intensify prayers for Nigeria and its leaders.
