Senator Shehu Buba Umar has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship race in Bauchi State ahead of Thursday’s primary election, citing alleged violations of constitutional and party regulations.

The senator, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District, announced his withdrawal in a statement issued on Wednesday through his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Comrade Mohammed Sabo.

According to the statement, Buba said his decision followed what he described as breaches of the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, the APC Constitution 2022, and the party’s electoral guidelines governing the conduct of the primaries.

The statement recalled that before the senator declared his ambition on April 19, 2026, the party in Bauchi State had already been facing internal leadership disputes involving key positions within the State Executive Committee, particularly the offices of the State Secretary and Organising Secretary.

Buba further alleged that despite supporting the party morally and financially over the past three years, he was being treated unfairly within the APC structure in the state.

He questioned the absence of clear information regarding electoral officials, voting venues, collation centres and the distribution of election materials ahead of the primaries, alleging that the process lacked transparency.

The senator claimed that no visible preparations had been made for the conduct of the exercise and alleged that only “pre-arranged winners” were favoured in the process.

Following consultations with supporters and political associates, Buba said he had resolved to withdraw from the contest under protest while urging his supporters to remain calm.

Major contenders in the APC governorship race include Yusuf Tuggar, Bala Wunti and former Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar.
