Sen. Buba Donates ₦6.5m Relief Materials to Bara Flood Victims

The Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, has donated ₦6.5 million and assorted relief materials to victims of the recent flood disaster in Bara District of Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, where more than 360 houses were destroyed.
The donation, made during a visit to the community, included 100 bags each of rice and maize, 100 mattresses, 200 blankets, 200 mats, 100 wrappers, 100 bundles of kaftan materials for men, and 100 pillows. The items were presented at the palace of the District Head of Bara, Alhaji Muhammadu Abdullahi.
Senator Buba explained that out of the ₦6.5 million cash support, ₦5 million was earmarked for flood victims, while ₦500,000 each was allocated to youths, women, and traditional leaders in the area.
The lawmaker expressed sympathy to families who lost loved ones in the disaster and prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased.
He assured residents of his commitment to supporting affected communities and pledged to raise the matter on the floor of the Senate to attract intervention from relevant authorities.
According to him, the scale of destruction caused by the flood was alarming, necessitating urgent collaborative efforts by all levels of government to protect lives and property.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the District Head, Alhaji Muhammadu Abdullahi, thanked the senator for the timely intervention.
He disclosed that the flood claimed two lives, killed livestock, destroyed farmlands and over 360 houses, describing it as the worst disaster the community had experienced in recent years.
He appealed for measures to divert floodwaters flowing into Bara from the eastern axis to prevent future occurrences.
Some victims also commended Senator Buba for the gesture, describing him as a responsive representative committed to the welfare of his constituents.
