The Yobe Government has commended the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) for its ongoing nationwide Subnational Engagement and Technical Reform Workshop, describing the initiative as critical to creating a business-friendly environment and attracting investment.
The Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, gave the commendation on Tuesday in Damaturu while receiving a PEBEC delegation on a courtesy visit.
Gubana, who chairs the State Ease of Doing Business Council and was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Mohammad Goje, said the visit was part of PEBEC’s physical assessment of the state’s progress in implementing business-enabling reforms.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with PEBEC and the World Bank to accelerate post-insurgency recovery and economic transformation.
According to him, Yobe has recorded significant achievements across four reform pillars with support from the Federal Government.
He said the administration remained fully committed to implementing reforms aimed at opening up the local economy and making the state more attractive to investors.
The deputy governor thanked the Director-General of PEBEC, Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, and her team for selecting Yobe as one of the key stops on the nationwide engagement tour.
Speaking via Zoom, Audu said PEBEC was established in July 2016 by the Federal Government as the country’s primary platform for driving business environment reforms and strengthening investor confidence.
She said the 2026 subnational engagement tour, covering the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, was designed to deepen state ownership of business climate reforms, strengthen public-private partnerships and accelerate policies that support enterprise growth, investment and inclusive economic development.
Earlier, the Secretary of the State Ease of Doing Business Council and State Focal Person, Amina Galadima, said PEBEC had positively impacted socio-economic development in the state, particularly among entrepreneurs.
Galadima said the workshop would provide participants with the opportunity to engage directly with the PEBEC team and present challenges affecting their businesses.
The event attracted business leaders and operators of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), who participated in technical sessions on regulatory governance through Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA), investment lifecycle management, and harmonisation of levies and charges.
