Expert encourage parents to invest in adolescent girls, women to reduces martanal mortality

Mr Oluseyi Olosunde, Health Officer, United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), Bauchi Field Office has encouraged parents to invest in adolescent girls and women towards reducing martanal mortality.
Olosunde made the call at the one-day media dialogue on martanal mortality organised by Adamawa Primary Healthcare Development Agency in collaboration with UNICEF in Yola.
He said these would help to improve the socioeconomic development of the family, community and the nation in general.
Olosunde said investing in them especially the adolescents would be of good potential to be mentally and physically well as well as taking good care of their newborn baby.
According to him, such a group of people need quality services like supportive, empowerment, responsive health system and supportive policies.
He added that if given the opportunity they will be fully educated on reproductive health and the well being of their children as future mothers.
Olosunde also tasked participants advocate
against home childbirth to reduce the rate of martanal mortalities in society.
Olosunde said he expressed serious concern over the high rate of maternal mortality in the state as the result of home childbirth due to severe martanal complications.
In his remarks, Dr Bashir Sulaiman, Chairman, Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Agency said, government and development partners are committed to ensuring quality healthcare service delivery in the.
Sulaiman said support from partners had contributed to facility upgrades, improved referral systems, better infrastructure and increased utilisation of some healthcare facilities.
He urged the participants and other stakeholders to help educate the citizens on the agency’s services across 21 Local Government Areas for people to take advantage of the investments and other services for their well-being.
