Adamawa community sensitises orphans, guardians in diphtheria, malaria, hypertitis
Shagari quarters phase II in Yola-South Local Government, Adamawa state has sensitized orphans, widows and guardians on the outbreak of diphtheria, heppatis and malaria diseases in the state and other states in the country.
Speaking during the awareness creation in the community, Pharmacies Maryam Yahaya, called on the people to adhere strictly on the health tips and improve their personal hygiene to protect themselves from all forms of diseases.
According to her, diphtheria is caused by bacteria that affects the nose and throat.
She said the rate in which diphtheria cases increase among other diseases is very alarming, hence the need for them to be aware of the danger, symptoms and the way out for healthy living.
Yahaya said that diphtheria is contagious bacteria which primarily affects the nose and throat that usually appear between two to five days after exposure.
She explained that the symptoms include; mild fever, sore throat, swollen neck glands, difficulty breathing and swallowing, weakness, rashes, painful open skin among others.
According to her, hepatitis is also another killer disease that affects the liver in different forms, adding that it can be easily transmitted through sweating, sex among other ways.
Yahaya advised people to immediately report to the health facility when starting to experience some of the symptoms for medical attention before it becomes worse and separates to other people.
Malam Maryam Adamu, laboratory technician explained that malaria is a serious disease that may lead to loss of lives especially the children under the age of five.
She called on the participants to take good care of themselves and their children to prevent them from the diseases.
She listed some of the symptoms and urged them to report to the health facility immediately they noticed the symptoms for medical treatment.
She also advised them to use treated mosquito nets frequently for prevention especially the pregnant woman.

According to her, if a child succeeds in getting a full dose of the immunization her may likely not be six or infected with such diseases because the immunization boosts their immunity to be protected against diseases.
Earlier in his address, Shehu Aliyu, Chairman Shagari Muslim orphans, widows and indigent committee advised the participants to adhere to the medical advice and to report sick persons to health facilities.
He said that the Shagari Healthcare centre has collaborated with the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH), Yola for quality healthcare services to residents and urged them to take advantage.
