Bauchi lawmaker calls for urgent intervention in tertiary institutions
By Ahmed Ahmed
Dr. Nasiru Ahmed Ala, member representing Chinade/Madara Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, has appealed to the house to summon stakeholders in education to intervene in the ongoing strike action by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Academic and Non-Academic Staff Unions of state-owned tertiary institutions.
The lawmaker made the appeal during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Abubakar Y Sulaiman on Thursday in Bauchi
He cited the negative impact of the strike on academic and educational activities in the state.
According to Dr. Ala, the JAC embarked on the indefinite strike action due to the non-implementation of tertiary institutions’ salary structures, including COMPACAS and CONTENDIS, among other issues
Dr. Ala alleged that key players in the education sector are employing delay tactics, undermining the state government’s efforts to implement the demands.
He appealed to JAC to bear with the state government, assuring that efforts are underway by the state assembly to resolve the matter.
The appeal comes as the Bauchi State House of Assembly continues to address pressing issues in the state, including education and governance.
