NAF veterans urge short courses, for personnel approaching retirement

Veterans of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have called for the introduction of short courses and economic support schemes to better prepare serving officers for life after active service.

They made the call during the second edition of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Parley with Veterans on Saturday in Bauchi.

Speaking at the parley ,Veteran Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Suleiman Loddo suggested that short courses be organised for personnel with 10 years or less in service to help them prepare for retirement.

Similarly, MWO Mahmud Mohammed advocated for the establishment of a credit scheme to assist retirees in facing post-service economic challenges.

Mohammed also commended the CAS for initiating the parley and pledged the continued support of veterans in Bauchi and beyond.

In a remarks, the Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Special Operations Command, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Usman Abdullahi, represented by AVM Abdullahi Bello, Chief of Staff of the Command, urged serving officers to begin planning early for their retirement to ensure a smooth transition to civilian life.

“The Nigerian Air Force has done much for us. It is important for personnel to always look outward and plan for their future.

“With assurance that all issues raised at the meeting would be forwarded to NAF Headquarters for necessary action, AVM Abdullahi stated,

According to him, The parley, an initiative of CAS Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, is an annual event aimed at strengthening the bond between NAF and its veterans, promoting their welfare, and sustaining engagement with the service.

AVM Abdullahi also encouraged veterans to utilise Air Force medical facilities for quality and timely healthcare,

He emphasise NAF’s unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of both serving and retired personnel

The parley featured health talks and discussions on economic sustainability to help veterans maintain healthy and secure lives after retirement.
