Emir of Fika Pledges to Lead Voter Registration Mobilisation in Yobe
By Baba Dan’Iya
The Emir of Fika and Chairman, Yobe State Council of Traditional Rulers, Dr. Muhammad Ibn Abali Muhammad Idrisa, has pledged to personally champion voter registration mobilisation across his domain.
The monarch made the commitment on Wednesday while receiving the Yobe Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, at his palace in Potiskum.
He said traditional rulers had a moral responsibility to ensure their subjects were registered and prepared to participate in elections, describing voter registration as the “gateway to good governance.”
“I will personally lead by example in sensitising my people. I will direct my district and ward heads to reach every eligible resident so no one is left out,” the Emir stated.
Earlier, Abdullahi said the visit was part of INEC’s strategy to strengthen partnerships with traditional institutions, noting that they remained trusted voices in mobilising grassroots participation in the electoral process.
“Your influence in uniting communities and encouraging civic duties is unmatched. This collaboration is vital to the success of the continuous voter registration,” the REC told the monarch.
The commission’s Head of Voter Education, Mr. Nuhu Ibrahim, and Head of ICT, Mr. Musa A. Musa, also briefed the Emir on operational improvements aimed at easing access to registration centres, particularly in rural communities.
Our Correspondent reports that the meeting underscores the growing role of traditional rulers in deepening democratic culture and fostering inclusive political participation in Yobe State.
