Group lauds the use of dialogue, non-kinetic strategies to tackle insecurity

The group under the auspices of Bauchi State Muslim Parliament has lauded Senator Shehu Buba, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and National Intelligence, for adopting a blend of kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
Speaking at a press conference in Bauchi on Saturday, the group’s spokesperson, Engr. Ahmad Yusuf, said the senator’s peace-driven initiatives have significantly reduced tensions in conflict-prone communities by prioritizing dialogue, reconciliation, and economic empowerment alongside conventional security operations.
He explained that while military action is necessary to combat violent groups, lasting peace can only be achieved through non-kinetic strategies such as community engagement, dialogue with warring factions, and grassroots involvement in peacebuilding.
“Senator Shehu Buba’s approach has shown tangible results,” Yusuf said. “Through dialogue, clashes between farmers and herders have reduced, markets have reopened, and trust among neighbors has been restored.
“ Local surveillance networks he championed now provide vital intelligence to security agencies, making communities active partners in safeguarding peace.” he said
The Parliament emphasized that Nigeria’s security problems including farmer-herder clashes, political rivalries, banditry, and communal disputes require a balanced response.
Yusuf noted that the senator’s framework encourages peaceful coexistence among diverse groups, tackling root causes of conflict such as poverty, displacement, and resource competition.
The group also condemned smear campaigns aimed at discrediting the senator, calling them attempts to derail ongoing reconciliation efforts. It urged politicians and religious leaders to avoid politicizing security matters and instead support dialogue and non-violent conflict resolution.
“We appeal to citizens to reject divisive narratives and misinformation. Security is a collective responsibility, and together, through dialogue and understanding, we can build a peaceful and united nation,” Yusuf stated.
The Parliament further called on the Federal Government to provide relief to victims of violence and displacement, stressing that sustainable peace depends on both strong security measures and inclusive, non-kinetic solutions.
