The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa has constituted a 12-member Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the party with Mr Belmont Dogo and Alhaji Yerima Shekarau as Chairman and Secretary respectively.
Our Correspondent reports that the development comes following the defection of Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri and the party Executives to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision was taken by the party’s National Working Committee pursuant to article 29(2)(b) to prevent a leadership vacuum and ensure stability within the party structure at a critical time
In his acceptance speech on behalf of the committee, Dogo expressed gratitude to the PDP’s national leadership for the confidence reposed in them.
He described the assignment as transitional rather than ceremonial, noting that the committee’s mandate is to stabilize the party and prepare a clear, credible pathway for the emergence of a substantive State Executive Committee.
“We accept this responsibility with humility, loyalty, and unwavering dedication.
We are fully aware that this assignment is not ceremonial.
“We will prepare a clear and credible pathway for the emergence of a substantive Executive Committee in due course.
“To the general public, we want to emphasize that our party remains strong, focused, and committed to democratic values and good governance.
“To our party faithful, this is a time for unity, not division, together, we will ensure that our party recovers fully and resumes its rightful position as a formidable political force”, he said.
Dogo further assures the National leadership and all stakeholders that they are ready, committed, and determined to ensure that the party is fully recovered, restructured, and up and running again in record time.
He also pledged for openness, transparency, and continuous engagement with the media for informing the public accurately.
