Bauchi Youth Group Urges Senate Probe of Alleged NNPC Financial Scandal
By Ahmed Ahmed
The Bauchi Youth 19 Group, popularly known as Yan Shatara, has called on the Senate Committee on Public Accounts to urgently invite Bala Wunti over allegations linking him to a reported ₦210 trillion financial controversy involving the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).
Addressing journalists in Bauchi, the group’s leader, Jaafar Saleh, said the call was necessary in the interest of transparency and public accountability.
He urged the committee, chaired by Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, to act swiftly, noting that Nigerians were increasingly demanding integrity from public office holders.
“At a time like this, anyone seeking public office must be open to scrutiny, especially when serious allegations have been raised,” he said.
Saleh stressed that the group was not declaring anyone guilty but warned that delaying action could erode public confidence in institutions.
The group outlined three key demands: the immediate invitation of Wunti to clarify the allegations; a transparent and credible investigative process; and public disclosure of findings.
It also called on political parties, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC), to ensure that their candidate screening processes reflect integrity and responsibility.
The group further urged civil society organisations, the media, and other stakeholders to remain vigilant in promoting accountability and good governance.
Saleh reaffirmed the group’s commitment to engaging relevant authorities in the interest of justice and the future of Bauchi State.
