YSEIB inaugurates campaign, seeks APC unity ahead of 2027 polls in Yobe

The Yobe Strategic Engagement Initiative for Bola Tinubu, Mai Mala and Wali (BMW) on Wednesday inaugurated its mandate convention with a call for unity among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event, held at the Arts and Cultural Centre in Damaturu, brought together party stakeholders and supporters, who pledged support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, the election of Alhaji Baba Malam Wali as governor, and other APC candidates in the state.
Speaking at the convention, the State Coordinator of the initiative, Barr. Muhammad Saleh Ahmed, identified low voter registration and turnout, opposition strongholds and post-primary divisions within the APC as major challenges confronting the party in Yobe.
He said available data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed that the state had about 1.4 million registered voters, while fewer than 300,000 voters participated in the 2023 presidential election across all political parties.
According to him, the low turnout underscores the need for sustained grassroots voter education and mobilisation.
Ahmed said the initiative was designed to unite various political blocs within the APC and reconnect supporters who had become inactive following the party’s previous primary elections.
He added that the group would engage communities across the state to promote voter awareness, address grievances, encourage inclusive political participation and strengthen the relationship between government and the people.
According to him, the success of the initiative depends on building public trust and confidence rather than relying solely on material incentives.
Also speaking, the APC governorship candidate in Yobe, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, represented by the Commissioner for Justice and the party’s deputy governorship candidate, Barr. Saleh Samanja, commended the organisers for promoting unity within the party.
He described the initiative as timely and appreciated its support for all APC candidates, from the presidential to the National and State Assembly levels.
Wali assured party members that the APC would justify the confidence reposed in it if elected and urged supporters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and vote for APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
