Damaturu, May 27, 2024 (NAN) Dr Baba Goni, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, says the new Maternal and Pediatric Complex in the hospital ensures seamless care for mothers and newborns.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Damaturu that the new edifice has also  transformed the state’s healthcare landscape.

He said that the facility’s state-of-the-art equipment has capacity to provide quality care to mothers and children.

Inaugurated by former President Muhammadu Buhari in February 2023, the CMD said that the 400-bed capacity complex was built by the Gov. Mai Mala Buni administration.

Goni explained that the complex also serves as training centre for healthcare professionals and features specialised units, including a special baby care unit, labour room, antenatal clinic, and pediatric clinic wing.

The facility, according to him, is equipped with modern technology, including phototherapy machines, incubators, and blood transfusion facilities.

He commended the state government for establishing a medical school at Yobe State University, College of Medical Sciences, and built an intern quarters for newly graduated doctors.

He explained that state government had supplied a powerful generator to provide backup electricity, while Federal Ministry of Power had begun a project to install solar panels, likely to reduce reliance on the generator and cut cost.

He added that “to keep the facility functioning smoothly, the state government contracted external companies to handle cleaning and security for effective maintenance.”

The chief medical director expressed gratitude to the state government for the achievements in the last one year, and commended the efforts of healthcare workers too. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
