Yobe Embraces Sector Wide Approach for Enhanced Healthcare
By Ahmed Abba
In a bid to address the challenges of fragmentation, poor coordination, and weak governance in the health sector, Lafiya UK organised a two-day training workshop on Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) for stakeholders in Yobe State. The workshop aimed to promote transparency and accountability in the state’s health sector.
Malam Bala Suleiman, Co-chair of the Yobe State Voice and Accountability Mechanism (YOVAM), emphasised the importance of ensuring accountability in every health sector activity.
He highlighted the need for a unified approach, where “One Plan, One Budget, One Report and Conversation” would streamline healthcare services in the state.
Hassan Kubes, the Secretary of YOVAM, described SWAp as an accountability mechanism that supports the health sector in achieving productive maternal and child health outcomes.
He explained that the training had sensitised and equipped YOVAM members on the SWAp concept, which involves integrating all health activities, reporting system, monitoring, and evaluation.
Al-Sheik Mustapha Damaturu, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the Yobe State House of Assembly, welcomed the SWAp concept as a game-changer for healthcare services, particularly at the grassroots level.
He praised Lafiya UK for organising the workshop, stating that it provided a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to understand the concept.
The workshop demonstrated Yobe State’s commitment to improving its healthcare sector through innovative approaches like SWAp. By promoting transparency and accountability, the state aims to provide better health services to its citizens.
