Bauchi women mediators pushes for inclusive peacemaking

The Bauchi Women Mediators Network has emphasised the crucial role of women in mediation and conflict resolution, advocating for their increased participation in peacebuilding efforts.

Hajiya Jamila Sule, speaking on behalf of the National Women Mediators Network while commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD) at Karofin Madaki Community Bauchi on Saturday

She explained that every year on the 8th of March, the Network joins the rest of the world to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD).

“This day was originally created to promote the rights of women and girls and eliminate any forms of discrimination against them.,” She said

Speaking also, Mrs Esther Patrick, Bauchi Network highlighted the need for decisive steps toward gender equality, addressing the slow progress in women’s empowerment, and ensuring women’s voices are heard in decision-making processes.

“When women are included in mediation, it allows for more diverse representation and fosters inclusive solutions to conflicts,”Mrs Patrick said

Mrs Blessing Gidado, Secretary of the Network said despite their critical contributions, women continue to face violence, abuse, and systemic discrimination in their homes, workplaces, and communities.

She called on government authorities, civil society organizations, and international bodies to take urgent action to dismantle barriers preventing women from playing active roles in mediation and leadership.

Gidado urged the enforcement of policies that promote women’s inclusion in governance, economic opportunities, and peacebuilding.

Also Speaking, Hajiya Binta Adamu said Women’s participation in mediation is crucial for building sustainable peace.

“We must recognize the value of women’s contributions and create opportunities for them to take on leadership roles in peacemaking efforts.” She said,

Malam Suleiman Muhammad, Community Leader in Bauchi said women are often the ones who suffer most during conflicts.

“Their participation in mediation is essential for ensuring that their needs and concerns are addressed. We must work together to create a more inclusive and peaceful society.”she said

Other organizations that attended the event include HeforShe members, Media Networks, Ministry of Women affairs, CSOs among others
