Security agencies have assured residents of a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration in Yobe.

The State Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ado made this known to newsmen briefly after state security meeting on Wednesday in Damaturu.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting is attended by senior officers from various security formations, including the Nigeria Police Force, Civil Defence, DSS, and other stakeholders.

Ado, represented by Saleh Sama’il, the Deputy Commissioner of Police said adequate arrangements were put in place across the state to ensure the safety of lives and property.

Ado said “A lot of preparations for the Sallah celebration have been extensively discussed in the meeting.

“We have agreed on how to man all the locations where celebrations will take place, both in Damaturu and across other communities in the state.”

He assured residents that all security agencies were working in synergy and had concluded robust operational plans to ensure the safety of lives and property throughout the Sallah period.

“I want to assure Yobe citizens that the Sallah celebration will be hitch-free.

“Those with any intent to disrupt the peace should know that security agencies are fully prepared and alert,” he said.

The commissioner urged residents, particularly celebrants, to conduct themselves peacefully and in accordance with the law.

“I especially appeal to our people celebrating Sallah to do so with decorum and to avoid actions that could lead to a breakdown of law and order,” he said.

The police chief also expressed concern over past incidents of criminal activities during late-night celebrations in some local communities and cautioned against such conduct.

“Previously, we have had issues where Sallah celebrations extended late into the night, leading to criminal activities.

“This year, we urge all divisional police officers and other security agencies to work with community leaders to agree on appropriate closing times for festivities,” he added.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the police and other security agencies to provide adequate coverage for all celebrants and urged for continued cooperation from the public.
