A stakeholder from Taganama Ward in Machina Local Government Area of Yobe has urged individuals seeking political relevance in Machina to demonstrate genuine connection and contributions to the community.
The stakeholder, Mr Garab Adamu, made the call in a statement issued on Sunday in Damaturu.
Adamu said leadership and representation should be built on truth, service, sincerity and visible commitment to the people.
According to him, community identity should not be based on political appearances or seasonal visits but on long-standing relationship and contribution to the development of the area.
“The people of Machina deserve leaders whose history, commitment and contributions to the community are clear and beyond doubt.
“A true son of a community is known by the people through his participation in their joys and challenges and his support for development initiatives,” he said.
He said residents had the right to seek clarity from individuals laying claim to political representation of the community.
Adamu said public figures seeking political relevance in the area should be transparent about their relationship with the town and their record of service to the people.
“The people are justified in asking what contributions such individuals have made to the growth of the community and how consistently they have identified with the people outside political periods,” he said.
He described the concerns as legitimate demands for accountability and responsible leadership rather than personal attacks.
Adamu urged the people of Machina to remain united and support leaders with genuine ties and commitment to the development of the community.
He added that identity and representation should be demonstrated through service, loyalty and sustained presence among the people.
