Labour talks with presidency adjourned without agreement

The highly anticipated meeting between Organised Labour and President Bola Tinubu on the minimum wage has ended without a conclusive agreement.

The meeting, called by the President, aimed to resolve the long-standing issue but failed to yield a fruitful outcome.

Labour leaders, who spoke to reporters after the meeting, confirmed that consultations will continue next week.

They said they need to report back to their respective organs and consider the President’s discussions.

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, reiterated that the proposed figures of N250,000 by Labour and N62,000 by the Federal Government remain unchanged.

The nation’s workforce has been eagerly awaiting a new minimum wage, and the adjournment of the meeting has prolonged the uncertainty.

The next round of talks is expected to take place next week, with hopes of a mutually acceptable agreement.
