The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE), North-East Zone, has advanced efforts to promote women’s rights through a one-day educational workshop held on Tuesday.
The workshop, themed “Accelerate Action Towards Gender Equality,” brought together union members to develop strategies for fostering equal opportunities and representation for women across the public sector and wider community.
Declaring the workshop open, the Yobe State Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Shehu, represented by the Director of Administration, Alhaji Audu Mohammed Mustapha, described the event as a vital platform for transformation.
He urged participants to seize the opportunity to share knowledge, inspire one another, and recommit themselves to the ideals of solidarity and inclusive service delivery.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the AUPCTRE Yobe State Council, Comrade Abba Bukar Umar, described the gathering as a landmark in the union’s gender advancement drive.
“We unite to deepen women’s participation, promote gender equality, and strengthen service delivery in our workplaces,” Umar stated.
He appreciated the Yobe State Government for its continuous support, citing the sponsorship of 76 state employees for training at the National Water Resources Institute, Kaduna, as a demonstration of its commitment to human capital development.
The Deputy National President of AUPCTRE, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim, commended the strong partnership between the union and the Yobe State Government, urging participants to actively engage and make the most of the workshop’s objectives.
Also speaking, the Zonal Chairperson of the North-East Zone Women Committee, Comrade Lydia Bitrus, described the theme as a call to duty, emphasizing the role of women in building inclusive workplaces and promoting national health.
“We must deepen our advocacy for gender equality and women’s empowerment. A healthy woman is a productive woman, and a productive woman is an asset to her family and the nation,” Bitrus said.
The workshop featured a keynote address, solidarity messages, health talks, and interactive sessions, aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully within their unions and communities.
