The All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe to contest the Yobe East Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, APC National Chairman and Chairman of the Screening Committee, announced Buni’s clearance after the screening exercise in Abuja on Saturday.

Yilwatda described the governor as a committed party leader who had served the APC in various capacities.

“Your Excellency, you have been screened multiple times, and screened others severally.

“You have served the party in various capacities with glory; you are indeed most qualified for any position.

“I hereby declare you qualified to contest the senatorial position in Yobe State,” he said.

Also speaking, the APC Deputy National Vice Chairman (South-South), Mr Victor Giadom, described Buni as a leader worthy of emulation.

“I had the opportunity of serving the party under Gov. Buni as the national chairman of the party.

“Gov. Buni is the type of leader that we should all emulate; he is the type of leader Nigeria needs,” Giadom said.

Similarly, the APC National Legal Adviser, Mr Murtala Aliyu Kanka, described the governor as a complete gentleman committed to the welfare of his people.

Responding, Buni commended the National Working Committee (NWC) and the screening committee for what he described as the honour done to him.

He urged the NWC members to remain united and committed to ensuring the success of the party in the 2027 general elections.

“The NWC is doing a very good job in repositioning the party with great stability and the party is growing.

“I congratulate and commend you; I urge you to keep it up in the interest of our party and democracy,” Buni said.

Fielding questions from journalists shortly after the exercise, the governor described the screening process as free, fair and objective.
