Security Alert: Yobe Govt Warns Against Metal Scavenging
The Office of the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Gov Mai Mala Buni has issued a stern warning to the public, particularly metal scavengers, against collecting and transporting scraps and abandoned metal objects into the state.
Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalm (Rtd), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters issued the warning in a statement on Tuesday in Damaturu.
The warning came after an incident where five metal scavengers, known as Baban Bola, were injured when an abandoned unexploded ordnance they picked from the deserted parts of Sambisa Forest detonated in the Goniri area.
Abdulsalm emphasised the dangers of handling suspicious objects and urged the public to report any unusual items or movements in their communities.
He said the military Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit is working tirelessly to identify and dispose of possible abandoned devices that may have been left behind in recent years.
He advised the public to exercise extreme caution and cooperate with security agencies to prevent such incidents in the future.
